Getting the most from Bullet Reader

Begin by taking the reading test. This will set the pace for your lessons. Go back and take the test as you progress through the lessons to track your results. The software works with your current reading speed so if you think you're not being challenged enough go back and take another test. Bullet Reader will automatically adjust to challenge you at your new, improved pace.

Do a lesson or two on the first day. You're the best judge of what you can handle, challenge yourself, but remember to keep it fun and interesting. Try some of the drills to make it more fun. There are some great games, and eye drills that you can use to help train your eyes.

Add new text to the software to keep it interesting. There are a lot of interesting e-books included on the download page, and if you want something different check out http://www.digitalbookindex.org/ They have a ton of books that you can import into Bullet Reader. Import just a few paragraphs at a time.

Pace yourself. You need a good night's sleep to reinforce the lessons (Psychology Today has some really cool articles on the importance of sleep to help you integrate newly learned lessons with the information that you already know).

Watch out for screen glare. Bullet Reader is almost hypnotic at times, and if you're staring at the screen for too long it will tire your eyes out quickly. Try dimming the lights if glare is an issue.

Rest your eyes for a few minutes between sessions. Look away from the screen, close your eyes, get a glass of water, stand up and stretch. These will all help.

There is no right or wrong way to learn to speed read. Play around with the software and make notes of what features you like.

If you feel like your speed is slipping go back and do a refresher course. You don't have to use it every day or every week, but remember it's there for you if you need it.

Read lots! It will help you practice, and it's just plain good for you. You never know when some little tidbit of information you read will come in handy.
